Version 1.7 Quick Start doc for developers is incorrect for 1.8 development.
Download the DemoMap source to verify the incorrect parts of 1.7 Quick Start.
In 1.8 it is true that
" ... DockManager, HeaderControl and ProgressHandler are available when an IExtension loads...".
This means DO NOT follow the 1.7 Quick Start Guide which tells you to add these controls. In 1.8 all you need is an AppManager and in its Property Page leave the DockManager, HeaderControl, ProgressHandler, and so on all blank (null). The defaults will be used.
Also when you create your own plugin (extension) ensure that your project does not make local copies of the references to DotSpatial core assemblies. If you do have local copies, then you get an error that says (wrongly) you need DockManager, HeaderControl and ProgressHandler.
